After taking ownership of his father’s cherished 97 Boxster, our customer brought it to us for an electrical concern and for an overall inspection . After sitting overnight the battery would be dead in the morning and would require a jumpstart. After checking over the charging and starting system we found a properly functioning alternator, no parasitic draw and a battery with a bad cell. We installed a new battery and verified the next morning that the car started right up.

After taking care of the charging system concerns, a full inspection of the vehicle revealed a few oil leaks as well as a lot of smoke from the exhaust on startup. The largest oil leak found was coming from between the engine and transmission and some smaller leaks were found from the oil filler tube and Air Oil Separator. With a suspected leak from the Rear Main Seal or the Intermediate Shaft bearing cover, we removed the transmission and verified the leak from the intermediate shaft bearing cover. An LN Engineering single row IMS retrofit had already been installed. After locking the camshafts to retain timing to safely remove the chain tensioners the bearing cover was removed and a new seal was installed. The cracked oil filler tube and faulty air oil separator were replaced as well.

After thoroughly cleaning and reinstalling all removed parts our customer was able to drive a smoke free Porsche that no longer left oil drops in the garage.
